One of my least favourite jobs in the house is mopping the floors. Partly because it’s like the laundry never ending and the other because it’s almost like doing the job twice. You have to sweep, then mop and it takes time. So I guess the question is when we choose flooring for our new house why did I make 90% of the downstairs tile and laminate and the bathrooms upstairs tile too! It’s easy to keep clean than carpet with 2 kids that love to explore and a dog. So when we were asked to try out the Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner I thought it would be great to put through it’s paces. See whether it would work to save time, keep the house clean and deal with the day to day life of summer holidays with 2 kids at home.

The Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner

The Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner is unlike anything that we had tried in the home before. When we clean the floor we use a broom or vacuum cleaner, then either a steam mop or a traditional mop. With a kitchen, dinning room, hall, laundry, study and 2 bathrooms it can take me a while to get down as I have to repeat the work again.

BUT… the Floor Cleaner does both… it vacuums, cleans, polishes all at once.
On both the tiles and the laminate as well – no problems.
And they are vacuumed and cleaned. They dry almost as quick as the steam mop and leave them really nice (until the kids walk through so all of about 20 seconds).

The Basics of the Karcher FC5 Hard Floor Cleaner
This cleaner is an all in one – so you vacuum and mop at the same time. Saving you time to do other things.
There is a water tank which uses tap water that you fill to the max and then add the detergent to, a capful per tank.
Then according to the instructions you get the rollers wet in the cleaning station and start to use it.
The head of the cleaner can be angled which means you can get into some areas that are difficult to reach. But the one thing I found is that it doesn’t lay flat with the head on the floor so you need to always keep the body of the cleaner at an angle. It doesn’t take long to get into the habit of this.

Once the floor is cleaner and vacuumed a little bit of maintenance on the cleaner keeps it in tip-top shape and ready for the next use.
Did it perform well?
YES, our family certainly put it through it’s paces. We tested it out during the summer holidays from school – 2 kids, 1 dog and also a water fight party and it took no time to clean up the mud, dust and general life mess on the floors of the house.
I actually prefer it for cleaning the bathrooms with than the broom and steam mop I have been using. As it does the vacuuming at the same time you don’t get the problem of the dust not being removed as the floor is damp. Instead it comes up cleaner than when I have got down on my hands and knees and cleaned during our annual spring clean of the rooms.

In the kitchen and dinning room it’s worked great. I’ve added it in replace of my weekly vacuum, broom and mop routine and now do it with the one machine instead.
